Wolfgang Puck Reopens Reunion Tower

January 22nd, 2009 in

One of Dallas’ most recognizable landmarks, the Reunion Tower, is back open for business.

Wolfgang Puck, the 59-year-old perhaps best known for his Spago Restaurant in Los Angeles, opened Five Sixty Thursday night.

“We also have a fantastic wine list, and it’s not that expensive,” he said. “You can come here and eat for $30 or $60, whatever you want.”

For the first time in 14 months, dinner was once again served at the Reunion Tower.

Five Sixty’s name was chosen in a poll of North Texans and comes from the restaurant’s placement 560 feet, or 50 stories, over Dallas.

Puck and a partner spent $23 million gutting and redesigning what was the old Antares restaurant. It’s his 16th restaurant in the country.

“This is our first restaurant in Dallas,” he said. “But you know, in the ’80s I did consulting for the [Rosewood] Mansion [on Turtle Creek] and for the Crescent. So, I’m very familiar with what people like in Dallas, and I know a lot of people here.”

Five Sixty’s menu is Asian inspired and includes everything from sushi to steak.

The restaurant hired about 110 employees. Thursday’s opening is the soft launch. Five Sixty’s grand opening happens February 10.

The observation deck isn’t supposed to open until sometime this spring.
