Assuming the Mayans are wrong and we’re all here after Dec. 21, there is plenty to look forward to in the year ahead.
Case in point: Dallas-based Woodbine Development Corp. has unveiled plans for a $35 million makeover for San Antonio’s Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa.
Portions of the project will be completed by next spring. The entire project is to be completed by the fall of 2013.
“We’re elated that we can bring these new enhancements to this very special property,” says John Field Scovell, CEO and president of Woodbine, the developer of the Hill Country Resort. “While much of what this resort offers is about tradition, we want to reward our loyal guests with new experiences and capture group customers who needed more function space than we were able to provide in the past.”
Here’s a synopsis of what all will be included in this $35 million project:
Indoor function space: This space will be expanded from its current measurement of 35,000 square feet to a grand total of 70,000 square feet. That 70,000 includes a new 20,000-square-foot ballroom — complete with a new 5,000-square-foot event lawn that will be connected to the ballroom.
The rooms: All 500 rooms in the hotel will be upgraded to include such amenities as the Hyatt Grand Bed mattress and an oversized granite-top vanity in the bathroom.
Landscaping: Project will include lighting of the public walkways of the hotel and replacing the existing plants and trees with plants that are native to the Lone Star State.
And finally…
Water park! The Hyatt Hill Country will be adding a FlowRider wave machine that will enable guests to go bodyboarding, kneeboarding or stand-up boarding. And it will be heated seasonally. Plus, the Hyatt will also boast a 22-foot-tall tower slide.
San Antonio firm Rialto Studio Inc. will manage the landscape improvements. Rounding out the project team are Atlanta-based Hardin Construction, which will serve as the general contractor; and Palo Alto, Calif.-based HKS Hill Glazier Studio, the architect of record. Irvine, Calif.-based WATG and Wimberly Interiors, a design studio of WATG, will provide interior design services.
The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa took the No. 4 spot on the Business Journal’s most recent list of the Largest San Antonio Hotels, reporting second-quarter 2012 receipts of $6.8 million.
